East Wareham

Unlike last year, December 2019 was slightly colder than average in temperature and very wet.  The temperature averaged 34.1 degrees, 0.29 degrees per day below the 30-year average. Maximum temperature was 59.0 degrees (the same as December 2018) on the 15th; a minimum temperature of 14 degrees was recorded on three days (9th, 19th and 20th).  Daytime high temperatures averaged 42.58 degrees, 0.12 degrees below the norm.  Evening temperatures averaged 25.6 degrees, 0.6 degrees below the norm.

Precipitation totaled 9.47 inches, 4.94 inches above normal.  We recorded 11 days with more than 0.1 inches of rain. The largest rainfall was 2.3 inches on the 10th.  Total rainfall for 2019 was 61.01 inches, 10.97 inches above the average for East Wareham and 2.22 inches less than the total rainfall for 2018, however, 2019 was a wet year.  There was 7 inches of snowfall recorded in December. The long-term average snowfall for the month of December in East Wareham is 6.98 inches.

Sunshine for the month (recorded at the Blue Hills Observatory) was below average, totaling 37% of possible, 11 points below the norm.  There were 5 days with 90% or greater sunshine hours and 12 days with no sunshine at all.
