Western Flower Thrips - Male and Female

Western flower thrips -male and female
Western flower thrips - male and female

Western flower thrips found on yellow stick card. Male thrips on left and female Western flower thrips on right. If primarily male thrips (80-100%) are trapped on sticky cards, overall population of thrips in a crop is relatively low. If primarily female thrips are captured, then a potential outbreak can be expected.  In addition to direct feeding damage, thrips can vector tospoviruses (Impatiens necrotic spot virus and Tomato spotted wilt virus).
