The Massachusetts Food Policy Council heard a half-hour presentation on the work and future of UMass Extension at its most recent quarterly meeting held at Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston. The Council has spent the past year devoting each meeting to one of the priority topics for future development that it gleaned from the Massachusetts Local Food Action Plan, published in 2014. The recent meeting focused on education, training and extension. The Council’s chair is Ag Commissioner John Lebeaux and vice chair is Representative Steve Kulik. The Extension presentation focused on work in food production agriculture, nutrition education, and food safety. Led by Jody Jellison, the presentation also included Kathy Carroll, Lisa Sullivan-Werner, Kathy Cunningham, Joe Shoenfeld and Amanda Kinchla.
