There is widespread news coverage of a first national-scale analysis in which ecologists at the UMass Amherst and the University of Colorado Boulder report that invasive grasses can double the number of wildfires. Department of Environmental Conservation post-doctoral researcher Emily Fusco was lead author, and worked closely with UMass associate professor Bethany Bradley and professor emeritus John Finn. While other studies have examined the phenomenon, this was the first to cover all of the lower 48 states. Full story.
