A number of different small flies (order Diptera) may be found around damp areas in the greenhouse such as fungus gnats, shore flies and moth flies. Moth fly (family Psychodidae) adults are so-named because of the fine hairs covering their body and wings, resembling adult moths. Moth flies are also known as drain flies, filter flies or sewer flies because they may also be found in bathrooms where they feed on the muck in shower and sink drains. In greenhouses, they may occasionally be found near drainage pipes with debris. Moth flies are not harmful to plants or people and are primarily a nuisance.
