IPM Message for Cranberry Growers: May 2, 2016

May 2, 2016

Dodder seedlings (~1/2” long) were reported on April 25, occurring in a bog in Rochester. Applications of Casoron for dodder control will be going out soon.  Be sure to check your own bog for early emerging seedlings.  We have demonstrated improved efficacy with higher rates and/or two applications of Casoron (on a bog where control was inadequate). If you haven’t been getting good control with one application of about 40 lb/A, try using a higher rate (as a single application) or following the first application with a second one about 2-3 weeks later. If you are able to use QuinStar, the target window is early postemergence, which is a little bit later than for Casoron applications.
