The herbicide glyphosate has received a fair amount of attention recently. This program will discuss the science behind glyphosate use and the environmental and health concerns.


9:00 to 10:00 am - Glyphosate Use Patterns in Agriculture and the Green Industry, with Potential Alternatives
Speaker: Randy Prostak, UMass Extension Weed Specialist
This presentation will give an overview of the most common uses of glyphosate in Massachusetts agriculture and the green industry. Potential alternatives to glyphosate will be discussed.

10:00 to 10:30 am - Break

10:30 to noon - Glyphosate: A Regulatory Perspective
Speaker: Hotze Wijnja, Environmental Chemist, MA Dept. of Agricultural Resources Pesticide Program
The regulatory review presentation will provide an overview of the registration history and use of glyphosate, environmental fate and toxicity, ecological and human health risk assessments, and recent regulatory reviews and updates.


Pesticide credits: 3 pesticide contact hours for all private categories, 33, 36, 37, 39, 40, Dealer, and Applicators (Core) License

Association credits: 2.5 ISA, 1MCA, 1 MCLP , and 1 MCH.

$75 pp

How to Participate: 

Attendees will be sent a link to register in Zoom ahead of time. This Zoom training opens at 8:30 am for participants to work out any technical problems; the program begins promptly at 9:00 am.
