Nancy L. Garrabrants will provide step-by-step instructions that will allow the youth and adults to create a holiday item for which you or your club members will arrange the delivery to help to brighten up the holidays.
All participants will participate virtually.
Clubs: Discuss a local community group that might benefit from a little thank-you or show of appreciation, such as a nursing home, essential workers, Veterans or shut-ins.
Families: Feel free to put kits together for your families!
SUPPLY LIST
- Styrofoam cone – I used an 11.8” however 8.8” would work & smaller surface to cover.
- Select gauge 24 wire, either paddle or spool wire in a color(s) of your choice. Wire is used to wrap around cone to secure the moss, and used to add decorative elements to the cone.
- 1 bag of Preserved Sheet Moss (bag at Joanne’s is marked 110in3)
- Container large enough to hold the cone securely
- Ribbon, optional
- Decorative items
Nancy is the former Dean of the UMass Stockbridge School. Nancy is from a 4-H family. She and her sister were members and their mother a club leader. Early in Nancy's career she worked in flower shops, taught floral design, and designed wedding flowers for brides. It was decades later that she reconnected with the 4-H Program in her role at the University of MA Amherst overseeing the Program.
A highpoint of her position was attending 4-H fairs, events and workshops, and meeting 4-H members. Nancy retired from University of MA Amherst after a 34 year career that included being Stockbridge School Director. Nancy currently is a MA 4-H Foundation Board Trustee.
