Farmers Markets
A New England Staple, the farmers' market is a unique, community venue to buy and proudly sell Massachusetts made and grown goods.
A safe and successful farmers market stall should have:
- A hand washing station
- Samples, if provided, should be covered, served with appropriate utensils and at a proper temperature
- Displays should be clean
- Potable water should be used to wash and refresh produce
- Products requiring refrigeration should be on ice
- Provided bags for transporting produce should be new and clean of dirt
- Cash handling should be completed after touching produce
- Ready to eat foods should be stored at proper temperature, prepackaged appropriately
- Customers should be encouraged to wash produce when they get home
The Massachusetts Department of Health offers an informational brochure about farmers' markets.
