Spittlebug nymph on yarrow (Achillea)

Spittlebugs are sucking insects about 1/8 of an inch long. You can see white foam along the stems and leaf axils surrounding the small light-green spittlebug nymphs. This foam helps the numphs stay moist and protects them from predators. There is one generation per year.
