Tospovirus is a virus family that includes impatiens necrotic spot virus (INSV) and tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV). These viruses are spread by Western flower thrips and there is no cure. Symptoms of INSV vary depending on the crop. Begin by looking for thrips damage which shows as distorted growth. Brown, necrotic spots are symptoms of virus on basil as seen in this photo. As soon as INSV/TSWV is detected, rogue out infected plant material, eradicate weeds and practice strict thrips management to prevent serious losses.
