April 2022 was slightly warm with below average precipitation and above average sunshine.

Overall, the temperature averaged 48.2 degrees, 2.15 degrees warmer than the 30-year average.  The maximum temperature was 68 degrees on the 16th, this is 4 degrees colder than the 30-year maximum temperature and a minimum temperature of 28 degrees was recorded on 20th night which is 1.8 degrees warmer than the long-term average.  Daytime high temperatures averaged 59.1 degrees; 4.6 degrees warmer than the norm.  Evening low temperatures averaged 37.3 degrees; 0.2 degree colder than the norm. 

Sunshine, recorded at the Blue Hills Observatory, averaged 56% of the possible sunshine hours. Total sunshine hours were 225 hr., and this represents 32 hr. more than the long-term average.  There were 8 days with 80% or better sunshine and 4 days with virtually no sunshine. 

Precipitation totaled 3.93 inches, which is 0.68 inch below normal.  We had measurable precipitation on 12 days; 7 days had 0.10 inches or greater rainfall.  The largest 24-hour rainfall was 0.98 inches recorded on the 21st.  Year-to-date rainfall for 2021 stands at 17.63 inches; this is 4.7 inches more than last year’s total at this time and about the same as the normal average for this time of year.

We had no snowfall in April. The total snowfall so far for the year (2022) is 35.5 inches which is 13.5 inches above this time in 2021.
