April 2023 was slightly warm with below average precipitation and above average sunshine.

Overall, the temperature averaged 48.4 degrees, 1.33 degrees warmer than the 30-year average.  The maximum temperature was 73 degrees on the 25th, and a minimum temperature of 24 degrees was recorded on 4th night which is 2.2 degrees colder than the long-term average.  Daytime high temperatures averaged 56.1 degrees; 1.6 degrees warmer than the norm.  Evening low temperatures averaged 38.7 degrees; 1.2 degree warmer than the norm. 

Sunshine, recorded at the Blue Hills Observatory, averaged 50% of the possible sunshine hours. Total sunshine hours were 200 hr., and this represents 7 hr. more than the long-term average. They were 4 days with 90% or better sunshine and 6 days with virtually no sunshine. 

Precipitation totaled 3.99 inches, which is 0.62 inch below normal.  We had measurable precipitation on 10 days; 7 days had 0.10 inches or greater rainfall.  The largest 24-hour rainfall was 1.04 inches recorded on the 17th.  Year-to-date rainfall for 2023 stands at 17.65 inches; this is similar to last year’s total at this time and about the same as the normal average for this time of year.

We had no snowfall in April. The total snowfall so far for the year (2023) is 6 inches which is 30 inches less than the snow received at this time in 2022.
