East Wareham

February had  average temperatures, above average precipitation and snowfall.  The temperatures averaged 30.7 degrees,  0.3 degrees below the long-term average.  The maximum temperature was 59 degrees on the 24th and a minimum temperature of -5 degrees was recorded on the 1st.  Daytime high temperatures averaged 42.1 degrees, 2.8 degrees above the long-term average for the month. Evening temperatures averaged 19.32 degrees, 3.68 degree below the long-term average.

Sunshine averaged 49% of the possible sunshine hours, 1 point below average.  7 days had 90% or better sunshine while 5 days had no sunshine.  The sunshine hours are recorded at the Blue Hill Observatory in Milton, MA.  Precipitation totaled 5.72 inches 2.1 inches more than the long-term average.  We had measurable precipitation on 10 days. The largest 24-hour rainfall was 1.47 inches on the 5th.  February had 5 inches of snowfall in contrast to February 2021 where 14 inches of snowfall was recorded. Year-to-date snowfall recorded in East Wareham is now 33.5 inches.  Snowfall records go back to 1952 in East Wareham. 

Official Winter Season

The official winter in East Wareham (Dec. 2021- Feb. 2022) was warmer than normal (0.67 degrees warmer), slightly wet (by 0.11 inches), and above average snowfall.  Sunshine (at Blue Hills) for the winter was 109 hours , 25 points below the norm.  The season's temperatures and Feb 1st and the maximum was 60 degrees on December 7th.  Sunshine hours for Dec-Feb were below the average. Precipitation totaled 11.87 inches; 0.34 inches below average.  Snowfall totaled 42.5 inches; 15.14 inches above normal. December was the warmest of the three winter months and all months had snowfalls and January being the snowiest. February had the highest rainfall for the winter season.
