IPM Message for Cranberry Growers: Jun 5, 2017

June 5, 2017

The past week has had some very cold temperatures and we have had reports of growers running for frost late last week and over the weekend.  We could still have another night with very low temperatures, so be prepared to run if needed.

The final keeping quality forecast should be out soon.  We expect it will be downgraded from the preliminary forecast since it has been very rainy and cool.  We anticipate first fruit rot sprays should be going out in about 2 weeks.  If you want to talk to Erika about your program, now is the time to do it.  She is at extension 18.

With the cloudy, scattered showery weather, it will be challenging to find a time to scout and/or spray.  But a few windows of opportunity may open up. Gypsy moth and weevil are still out there at or above threshold. Now is the time to spray for scale crawlers, if you have scale.  Roundup, Confirm, Intrepid, and Quinstar need 6 hours rain-free after application, Stinger and Nexter need 5, Callisto needs 4 and Poast, Select Max and Roundup Weather Max need 1-2 hr rain-free.  Below is a picture of a spag larve on loosestrife.  It is on the top third of the vertical center leaf.
