IPM Message for Cranberry Growers: May 8, 2020

May 8, 2020

Some observations from Marty: No other insects were seen, but a few weevils were detected on bog edges this past week.  For the foreseeable future - no days above 60 degrees F and lots of rain and frost, so it looks like there will be no good sweeping days.  Be aware, however, that when weather does open up (after May 15), the insects may be ready to roll, so plan to sweep then.  Scale populations had little winter mortality, so watch for developing dieback or dead areas.  Marty will receive any samples of uprights that you think might be infested (collect 20-40 uprights from the base and place in a plastic bag delivered to station front door. Call Marty ahead of time to make arrangements (508-265-6921).

We will be holding a virtual (zoom) Grower Lunchtime Bogside on Wednesday May 20, 2020 12:00-1:00 PM. One contact hour will be offered. Please contact Robyn Hardy at rmhardy@umass.edu or 508-295-2212 x10 for the meeting information.
