May weather was above average in temperature and with more sunshine than normal. Rainfall was below the 30-year average. The temperatures for May averaged 57 degrees, 1.2 degrees above the 30-year average. The maximum temperature was 85 degrees on the 13th and a minimum temperature of 31 degrees was recorded on the 18th. Daytime high temperatures averaged 68.8 degrees; 4.2 degrees above the norm. Evening temperatures averaged 45.2 degrees, 1.9 degrees below the norm. On average, the night temperatures were colder than the norm.
Based on data from the Blue Hills Observatory, sunshine averaged 75% of the possible sunshine hours, 23 percentage point above the norm. There were 14 days with 90% or better sunshine and 2 days with less than 5% sunshine. Only 2 days were reported to be foggy in East Wareham.
Precipitation totaled 3.34 inches (this is 0.62 inches more precipitation than received in May 2022), 0.4 inches below the average rainfall for May in East Wareham. There were 5 days with measurable precipitation, and each day had at least 0.1 inches. The largest 24-hour rainfall event was 1.77 inches on the 21st. Our total year-to-date rainfall is 20.99 inches, 0.4 inches below the average in East Wareham but 0.64 inches more than this time in 2022.

The official spring (March-May) had average temperatures of 47.6 degrees; 1.3 degrees above the long-term average. No snowfall was recorded for the period (March-May). The long-term average total snow is 6.16. Precipitation was 2.86 inches below normal at 10.82 inches and this is 0.75 inches more rainfall than the same period last year (2022). All months had below average precipitation. Sunshine for the spring was 729 hours, 20.5 % more than the normal average number of sunshine hours for the three-month period. All three months had above average sunshine hours.
