October had an average temperature warmer than the long-term average for the month, below average sunshine hours and above average rainfall. The temperature averaged 58.82 degrees, 6.11 degrees per day above average for October. Maximum temperature of 82 degrees was recorded on the 22nd and 23rd; a minimum temperature of 35 degrees was recorded on the 31st. Daytime high temperatures averaged 69.48 degrees; 7.68 degrees higher than the norm. Evening low temperatures averaged 48.16 degrees, 4.46 degrees above the norm. The October average temperatures were consistent with the past 10 years except 2018 in which temperatures were warmer than the 30-year average.
Sunshine totaled 53% of the possible sunshine hours, 2 points below the norm, but 3 points is better than October 2020. The Blue Hills observatory had 13 days that were mostly clear (at least 80% of possible) and 9 days with no sunshine. In East Wareham, 14 days in October were either cloudy or overcast.
Precipitation totaled 8.23 inches, 4.1 inches above the 30-year average and 4.62 inches above this time in 2020. The largest rainfall came on the 27th, 2.65 inches. Measurable rain was recorded on 9 days, 7 days of which had rainfall of 0.10 inches or greater. Year-to-date rainfall for 2021 is 52.35 inches; 11.52 inches above long-term average for East Wareham and 24.25 inches above rainfall received at this point in 2020.
