Plant trials are important tools. Field trials offer a view of how plants perform in the field and how your customers see plants. The University of Maine began field trials of new annual flowers in 1988. There are 93 plants in the 2007 field trials. The first ratings were done on July 20, about midseason. Marigold (African) 'Vanilla' (seed; PanAmerican Seed Co) 'Vanilla' has the lush dark green foliage and uniform vase-shape habit of many tall marigolds. Plants are topped by 3-4" cream-colored flowers. For a copy of the trial summary, send an email request to: LSTACK@umext.maine.edu
