Your first round of fertilizers should be out by now. Many varieties are in hook stage. Bumble bees are coming into the Station, probably next Thursday. If you are using pheromone traps, check them weekly and record your numbers. Change them as they become messy and replace your lures at least once per month. If you know you have scale or think you do, please contact the Entomology Lab to confirm the infestation and receive management recommendations. We are picking up a smattering of cutworms and spanworms, but nothing that seems over threshold. Some labels have RESTRICTIONS regarding application with bloom and/or bees present, so READ the label of the product you are using.
I have heard of 2 reports of good dodder control with Kerb. If folks have used it, I would be grateful to hear how it is working for you. If you are using Kerb, you may be noticing, as an added benefit, some very good grass control. This is not unexpected.
Roundup, Confirm, Intrepid, and Quinstar need 6 hours rain-free after application, Stinger and Nexter need 5 hr, Callisto 4, and Poast, Select Max and Roundup Weather Max need 1-2 hr rain-free.
We will be hosting a bogside workshop on Wednesday June 26 from 10-noon. 2 contact hours will be offered. We will be covering issues of the day along with topics such as collecting good samples for pest diagnosis, using GDD, and interpreting tissue tests.
