East Wareham

August was slightly warm, dry and sunny month.  The temperature averaged 72.3 degrees, 1.82 degrees above the long-term average. There were no days with a temperature of 90 or above and 9 days with temperatures above 85 but less than 90 degrees.  The maximum temperature of 87 was recorded on 3 days (19th, 20th and 22nd).  The minimum temperature of 49 degrees was recorded on the 27th.  Daytime high temperatures averaged 81.1 degrees, 2.53 degrees above the norm.  Evening temperatures averaged 63.52 degrees, 1.12 degrees above the norm.  There were 4 nights with temperatures of 70 or above and 7 nights with temperatures below 60 degrees.

Sunshine totaled 66% of the possible sunshine hours, which is 8 points above the norm.  There were 6 days with 90% or greater of possible sunshine, and two days with less than 8% but zero days with no sunshine.

Precipitation totaled 3 inches; 0.88 inches below normal.  We had measurable precipitation on 7 days, with 5 of those have more than 0.1 inch. Almost two-thirds of the rain (1.94 inches) was recorded on the 29th. Year-to-date, 2019 has received 36.97 inches of rain, 4.62 inches less than yearly average for East Wareham.   Compared to 2018 at this stage, we have received 2.26 inches less rainfall for the year.

Official Summer Season 

The official summer (June, July and August) was warmer, wet, and sunny.  The average temperature was 71.4 degrees, 2.23 degrees above the 30-year average for the 3-month period. All three months had above average temperature.  Total rainfall for the season was 13.99 inches, 3.03 inches above the normal precipitation for this time of year; although August precipitation was below normal.   Sunshine hours totaled 847 hours; this is 104 hours above the average for the three months, July and August were above normal.  We had a maximum temperature of 96 degrees recorded on July 21st and a minimum temperature of 48 degrees recorded on June 9th.  There were 4 days of 90° or more only in July.  We had no official heat wave this season.
