Profile:

Jason Lanier received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Plant and Soil Sciences from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and has worked with UMass Extension since 2000.  During this tenure he has participated in all facets of Extension education and programming including project development and management, facilitation of educational programs and resources, and frequent interaction with the industry, political decision makers and the greater public.  He has served as an editor and contributing author for several publications, and has provided academic instruction in varied forums ranging from workshops, to certificate programs, to University courses.  Research qualifications include appreciable experience in field, greenhouse and laboratory settings, as well as composition and delivery of written and oral research reports and a peer-reviewed publishing record.  Jason has contributed substantially to a number of initiatives and projects which addressed pivotal industry, public and academic concerns, and has training, experience and proficiency in key subject areas within the horticultural realm, including plant stress physiology, water and nutrient management, sustainability, input reduction, IPM and Best Management Practices.  Over time he has worked hard to develop a strong understanding of, and commitment to, the missions and integrity of both Extension and the larger University.

Jason’s past research has focused on relationships between goal-oriented irrigation scheduling and low temperature injury in perennial ryegrass, and the assessment of isotopic carbon ratio measurement as a potential indicator of low temperature tolerance in plants.
