The UMass Department of Environmental Conservation in cooperation with UMass Extension is offering “Wetlands Assessment and Field Techniques,” a 3-credit course during spring semester at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The University is offering conservation commissioners and administrators, environmental consultants, agency personnel and other natural resource professionals an opportunity participate in the lecture portion of the course either in-person or remotely (via Zoom). The course instructor is Scott Jackson, Extension Professor in the Department of Environmental Conservation. Class meets at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and begins February 1, 2024.
This course offers in-depth information about Massachusetts wetland regulations, wetlands classification and mapping, functional assessment, condition assessment, wetland delineation, road-stream crossing assessment, vernal pool identification, and wildlife habitat evaluation. The lecture portion of the course will meet on Tuesdays and Thursday, 6-7 pm, during the first ten weeks of the spring semester (February 1 – April 4). View an abbreviated syllabus with the schedule of lectures. The cost for this non-credit, lectures-only opportunity (no field labs) is $300. Due to space limitations, participation in the full course (lecture and field labs) is limited to enrolled UMass students.
