The Center for Agriculture works with and provides resources within academic departments at UMass Amherst. Most of these departments are within the College of Natural Sciences, as is the Center itself, although some are within other Schools and Colleges.
The National Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is the federal partner for Cooperative Extension and Experiment Stations (research) across the nation. It was founded in 2008, replacing the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES).
Barnstable and Plymouth Counties are the only counties in Massachusetts in which county government continues to prode Extension services.
