2018 Massachusetts Hobbyist Health Survey
In 2018, UMass and MDAR collaborated with 40 hobbyist beekeepers accross Massachusetts to carry out this beekeeper-initiated project. In early and late summer, we sampled two colonies from each beekeeper for Nosema, Varroa, viruses and pesticides. The data was then sent to our collaborators at Cornell, who will be analyzing hive health at the landscape level, and exploring the relationship between land-use and pesticide/disease levels. Check back for more information once the results become publically available.
