Best management practices are key to establishing and maintaining turf that can withstand pressure from damaging pests. Mary Owen, UMass Extension Turf Specialist, will focus on integrating BMPs into a pest management program, with emphasis on the use of particular cultural practices in the management of specific weed, insect and disease pests. Also, a strong understanding of a product’s active ingredient is necessary to get the most out of an herbicide application. Randy Prostak will discuss characteristics and use patterns of commonly used turf herbicides.
