Fruit Program

The Extension Fruit Team conducts research and outreach on a wide range of IPM topics to assist growers with commercial orchard, vineyard and berry production. They carry out much of their research at the UMass Cold Spring Orchard, a 40 acre farm in production in Belchertown MA, that has been operated by the UMass Agricultural Experiment Station (CAFE) and Stockbridge School of Agriculture as a research and education farm and a commercial orchard since 1962. In addition to IPM research, they publish the March Message, Healthy Fruit and Fruit Notes, collaborate on the New England Tree Fruit Management Guide, generate apple maturity reports, write fact sheets, consult with commercial orchardists, and host Extension educational programs on topics such as pest control, orchard management, and invasive species.
