Congratulations to Margaret Wall, recipient of the George L. Farley scholarship for 2020. This scholarship is available to current and former 4-H members attending UMass Amherst and is presented in recognition of George L. Farley who was the State 4-H Leader in Massachusetts from 1916 to 1941. He is considered by many to have contributed more to the Massachusetts 4-H program than any other person.
Margaret is a current 4-H member in the Thunder Hill Canine Encounters club in Norfolk county. She has been a Massachusetts 4-H member for ten years. She will be attending UMass Amherst in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts, majoring in Music Education.
As a 4-H member, Margaret participated in dog activities, including dog camp. She also was very active in the visual presentation contests and community service projects. Her 4-H experiences included teaching younger children within her club about a variety of topics, such as grooming dogs, preparing for giving a talk or speech, and guiding them with community service activities and more. These experiences were key in shaping her love of teaching and desire to pursue this as a career.
Margaret credits her 4-H experiences with helping her to become more confident and to develop her supervision skills, management techniques, leadership skills and others. She uses her passion and creativity to help lead and inspire others. Congratulations Margaret!
