4-H Extension Educator III – Animal Science Specialist

The 4-H Animal Science Specialist provides statewide leadership and guidance on, and has responsibility for, all UMass Extension 4-H Youth Development Animal Science programs. The position is an integral part of the UMass Extension 4-H Youth Development State Leadership team and is supervised by the UMass Extension 4-H Youth Development Program Director. The position manages the risk associated with working with youth ages 5-18, volunteers, small and large livestock, and equine programs and serves as the livestock specialist for 4-H programs and staff. 


UMass 4-H STEM Ambassador Intern Positions Summer 2024

UMass 4-H STEM Ambassadors are trained to provide direct teaching of STEM curriculum to young people throughout Massachusetts. UMass Extension 4-H Educators train STEM Ambassadors with the lessons Ambassadors will teach. All materials will be provided.

Locations for program delivery and target audience is unique to each site.

  • Leominster/Worcester – youth 7-12 on Plants, Pollinators and Percolation
  • Plymouth County Extension – youth12-18 on Agriculture and Animal Science
  • Springfield/Holyoke - youth 7-12 on Plants, Pollinators and Percolation

Those selected to be 4-H STEM Ambassadors will complete required hands on training about the 4-H Youth Development Program, working with children, and lessons.

Position Requirements

  • Attend professional development provided by UMass Center for Agriculture, Food and the Environment
  • Attend trainings provided by 4-H staff.
  • Assist at 4-H booths, programs, fairs and events as requested during time of employment.
  • Teach assigned lessons to young people at assigned location.
  • Collect demographic information.
  • Prepare kits, copies, and materials for lessons.
  • Complete any financial reimbursement forms by August 23rd , 2024

Compensation

  • Pay is $17.00 per hour and interns are expected to work 15 hours per week. The weekly rate is $255. Total compensation is $2,295 plus travel reimbursements as agreed upon.
  • Travel reimbursement will be provided at the allowable IRS reimbursement rate.
  • The standard work week varies by site and is available upon request.

Locations

  • Office locations include Springfield/Holyoke, Auburn and Plymouth MA.
  • STEM Ambassadors will be assigned to one office location.
  • Program sites are determined and arranged by Massachusetts 4-H staff

Duration

  • Payroll paperwork to be completed early June.
  • Program Training begins on Monday, June 17, 2024
  • Program delivery begins late June/early July based on site
  • Program ends August 16th

Qualifications Needed

  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Responsibility for own transportation to and from the sites
  • Ability to carry materials and supplies; up to 40 pounds.
  • A CORI/SORI background investigation will be required for the successful candidate
